Great Rolling Stone Review Blunders
May 21st 2008 02:53
(the Blogmaster Overlord will hate me using direct quotes, but we’re going to make an exception this time…)
A Perfect Circle: Mer de Noms
I say: Awesome!
Rolling Stone says: “A Perfect Circle sound like a desperate dream of what rock used to be.” 2.5 stars
Nirvana: Nevermind
I say: Awesome!
Rolling Stone says: “the decisive control of bassist Novoselic and drummer Grohl is all that keeps the songs from chaos”. 3 stars
Red Hot Chili Peppers: By the Way
I say: Rubbish!
Rolling Stone says: “It turns out Californication was only foreplay.” 4 stars
Prodigy: Fat of the Land
I say: Awesome!
Rolling Stone says: “Howlett's riffs go nowhere”. Not rated. Not rated!?
Audioslave: Audioslave
I say: Awesome!
Rolling Stone says: “Do Audioslave rock? Sure. Is that enough? Well, no.” 3 stars.
Foo Fighters: One by One
I say: Rubbish!
Rolling Stone says: “It's rock that draws power from its determination to struggle onward”. 4 stars
Pearl Jam: Pearl Jam
I say: Rubbish!
Rolling Stone says: “Pearl Jam's first studio release in four years and their best in ten”. 4 stars
Daft Punk: Human After All
I say: Awesome!
Rolling Stone says: “Daft Punk may have become the victim of their own animatronic satire”. 2.5 stars.
C’mon: not even three stars for the album that gave us Robot Rock, Technologic and Make Love?
But these two album reviews take the cake:
Bob Dylan: Love and Theft
I say: Rubbish!
Rolling Stone says: “a stone-cold Dylan classic”. 5 stars
Here’s the punch line:
Bob Dylan: Desire
I say: Awesome!
Rolling Stone says: Desire’s “adamantly antimusical approach keeps it from greatness”. Not rated. Sheesh.
